I haven't colored anything in a long, long time, and this sketch was really rough. So I had to make it presentable.
It would be awesome if we could play as Dom's deceased brother Carlos in a Gears game. And if we have a Carlos skin, we need a contemporary Marcus skin to go with it, because they were best bros and they were squadmates. In lieu of that, I designed Aspho Fields variants of the two characters. They're essentially up-armored variants of Commando Dom and Commando Hoffman, with respect paid toward their depictions in the comics (issue #7 "The Quickening" and issue #17 "Unsaid") as well as the book cover for "Aspho Fields."
I also gave Marcus a custom Retro Lancer and Carlos a custom Gnasher. Nothing flashy, just pure practicality. Marcus' Retro has a folding frame stock (folded up) similar to the original Retro Lancer model in Gears 3 promo art. Meanwhile, Carlos' has stripped the top cowling off of his Gnasher and wrapped paracord around the lever-action. These are the kinds of weapon skins that belong in Gears, not the neon and wooden tripe we got.
Maybe I'm pedantic, but I really wish that the prologue of Gears 4 had been more faithful to the book version of Aspho Fields. You know, Pesangas and all the commandos wearing commando armor instead of E-Day armor. And I for one hope we get a DLC campaign one day where we play as Marcus and Carlos... hey, a man can dream.

I only JUST found this artwork today, and I'm not sure why. This is fantastic and I agree. Gears jumped the gun way too hard pushing Fenix's story forward past the Locust era. There's still so much potential story to tell in the Pendulum Wars era and the Locust War era.
